Tesla Powered Lotus Evora
OnPoint Dyno owner Sasha Anis is some kind of mad scientist.. (I should end this blog post here but I'll explain)
I've had the pleasure of knowing Sasha for over a decade now and while I won't give the whole back story, I'll tell you now that during the time I have known him, his skill and knowledge as it pertains to cars, performance driving, motorsport and now EV performance has progressed at a seemingly exponential pace and now rests safely at "genius" level.
When I first introduced Sasha to my new business and the capabilities of Augment Wheel Company, he knew exactly what to do. By the time I had got back to the shop after a visit to his garage...the following images where in my inbox.
Sasha did a great job with this method in articulating the type of wheel he wanted. We then took his designs and fine tuned them and maximized both the aesthetics and performance (weight) of the wheel
Sasha gave us specific instructions to design and build a wheel that was not only inline with his original drawings, but ones that were also very light relative to their size. Knowing that Sasha was going to both street-drive and track-drive this car, our design took several rounds to complete based on FEA testing (Finite Element Analysis)
FEA is a process by which we apply a theoretical load to the wheels. The real world examples of this load would be the weight of the car, the impact with potholes, the stresses of high speed cornering, the pressure from the inflated tires...basically all of the elements that apply stress to the wheel.
The FEA process enables us to find hot spots in the design that show the highest likelihood of failure. We continue to design/redesign until we have satisfied all of our stress requirements.
The process led us to the final design of this wheel. Below are the two wheel profiles (front and rear respectively)
Although Sasha's requirements were for a OE-appearing black wheel, we rendered the final image in a hyper silver so we could confirm all the final design elements. Despite its seemingly subtle appearance, this is a very technical wheel (pay attention to the side milling in the inner spoke areas as an example) fitting for what is arguably the most technically advanced Lotus Evora on the planet.
Time to test fit...
Looking very good but in our experience, wheels begin to show their true attitude when you mount appropriate tires on them. Our friends at Steelcase Tire and Mag did a pro job of installing some very meaty Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R
And the end result can be seen in the following Speed Academy video highlighting the OnPoint Lotus Evora EV Project
But wait...there's more...
You didn't think we were going to let a name like "Blue Lightening" go un-celebrated? The cherry on top are the Blue Lightening Electric Party center caps, custom designed by Sasha and machined by AWC.
